Tips
on choosing a hotel to stay in Spain:
Most of the tourists in Spain stay in hotels because, as you know, hotels
offer full service. You only have to sleep, eat or whatever you need to
do during your vacation. They take care of you by cleaning your room,
making your bed, preparing meals (they usually have a restaurant downstairs)
and they also give you directions to popular tourist destinations, etc.
Everybody knows what a hotel is about. Hotels in Spain (as in most countries
in the world) are rated with stars. They have 1 through 5 stars, and of
course, the more, the better. In my opinion, depending on your budget,
if you are looking for a very comfortable vacation, don't go lower than
4 stars. 4 star hotels are almost as good as 5 stars but they are usually
quite cheaper. 3 star hotels are so diverse that it's difficult to know
if it's good or not, but nowadays, with the Internet, it might be a little
easier to find out. I have had very different experiences staying at 3
star hotels and I can't say it was consistent. With two and one star hotels
you know what to expect. Something probably in the lower end, with rooms
that are not as spacious, older decorations and older construction. You
can still feel pretty comfortable on them, as long as you know you won't
be living like a "king" or a "queen" there! By the way, king-size beds
are not as frequent in Spain. You won't have a problem finding them in
4 and 5 star hotels, but it might be more difficult to find it in 3, 2
and 1 star hotels, so if that's important for you, be aware of it. Hotels
are usually clean in Spain, you shouldn't have a bad experience in that
regard.
There are also Hostels (Albergues), Board and guest houses (Hostal, Pension),
and they definitely offer cheaper prices, but you won't really know what
to expect and the levels of cleanliness might not be up to your expectations.
Of course there are many options and some will be good and some won't
be, so if you can do some research before you go on your vacation, the
better your trip will be.
Here are some websites that will help you find hotels in Spain (Note that
I haven't used any of their services, so I can't say anything good or
bad about them):
